About the carthographer
Daniƫl Stopendaal (Amsterdam, 1672-idem, buried September 19, 1726) was a Dutch engraver. 1
Stopendaal was probably trained as a cartoonist and draughtsman by his father, Bastiaan Stopendael, who practised the same profession. Between 1685 and 1713 he worked in Amsterdam. [2] He made various engravings and etchings of maps and world maps. A number of maps were recorded in an edition of the Bible in 1714: Biblia, which is the Gantsche H. Schrifture, all the Canonijcke of the ancients and of the New Testaments, published by Jacob and Pieter Keur, Dordrecht and Pieter Rotterdam, Amsterdam. [3] He also commissioned and etched many well-known town houses and outside places of among other rich Amsterdammers.
A book work in which dozens of copper engravings are made of his hand, is the Zegepraalende fight from 1719.
